So, you have decided to homeschool in Pakistan?
It's the best decision you can make for your child.
However, it is also going to be the toughest.
You need thick skin for this stuff.
I'll be honest, I didn't think it would be this hard. I have had to cry my eyes out in front of my family just so I could fight for my children's right to be educated at home.
People keep asking me why I homeschool, and I cannot believe that there are people in this world, in fact, in this era, who think there should only be a single way of doing things.
In Pakistan, if you think or act differently than the majority of the population, you are a bad person. They go as far as to say that you are doing things wrongly.
I have had to hear some harsh words solely because I don't send my child to school. Never has anyone ever come to me to ask why homeschooling is good. They have never come to me with an open mind to understand what I believe in. They have never bothered to sit down and discuss the many things I do not like about the traditional schooling system.
But... just because others are doing it I have to do it too.
It is extremely challenging to do things differently things in Pakistan. i belong to the part of society, they are woke and oh so modern. They think they are accepting and tolerant, but if someone close to them chooses to stand up and say hey I see you are being supportive for all these different things, so I thought I do something differently too. But then they at look you like you are crazy, like you know nothing, like you didn't spend years researching this "modern-approach" like you didn't spend nights sleepless pondering your decision, like you didn't turn the internet over trying to find the best resources for your child.
Regardless, I am not going to stop. I will continue to homeschool my kids. I will TRY to manage my anxiety, which people add to, by asking me this question again and again. I refuse to submit to conventional ways of educating a child and taking away their freedom.
Hi, I am a homeschooler mom from Pakistan.
Welcome to my ranting platform.
